Ophthalmologist/Owner, Premier EyecareListed in America's Top Ophthalmologists, and Past President of the prestigious California Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Andrew Calman has established a well-deserved reputation for his innovative approach to general eye care and opthalmic surgery. Dr. Calman serves an array of multicultural clients from his practice in San Francisco, California, and remains dedicated to education, community, and public service.
Andrew Calman studied at Yale University where, in only four years, he earned both a BS and MS in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. He graduated summa cum laude as a member of The Phi Beta Kappa Society in 1982, with Distinction in the Major. From there, Andrew Calman moved to the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he pioneered many new surgical techniques in the Bay Area. He was awarded his MD and a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology in 1989. Dr. Calman completed his residencies in internal medicine and ophthalmology at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital and UCSF, respectively. After completing his residencies, Dr. Andrew Calman founded Premier Eyecare of San Francisco, where he currently works as the clinic’s owner and primary practicing Ophthalmologist. Dr. Calman and his staff provide the San Francisco Bay Area communities with many eye care services previously unavailable in the area. Dr. Andrew Calman’s diverse clientele benefits from his fluency in English, Spanish, French, and Italian, as well as his conversational knowledge of Tagalog, Japanese, German, Russian, and Dutch. Dr. Calman often makes use of a number of these languages in a single day at the clinic. Beyond his private practice, Dr. Andrew Calman actively participates in the education and training of medical students and resident physicians in the Bay Area. He instructs students in cataract surgery as an Associate Clinical Professor of Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology, Family, and Community Medicine at UCSF and acts as a volunteer member of the clinical faculty of California Pacific Medical Center. |
